First off: You come to the Alps to hike But Meran / Merano and its vicinity offer a lot more. The South Tyrolean village of Schenna / Scena is sunny and picturesque. The once rural community boasts one of the most-beautiful locations, directly overlooking Meran. An alpine mentality combined with a Mediterranean easy-going nature – You can see that in the landscape, the people, and the lifestyle.

Shopping

The village of Schenna / Scena is home to a number of small businesses, specialty stores, and shops offering handmade items. You can reach the village in just 20 minutes, over broad meadows and past fertile orchards. The stores are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. till 12 noon and then again from 3:00 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. In the summertime, they are open Wednesdays till 9:30 p.m. On Saturdays, a grocery store in the village is open till 6:00 p.m.

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle and the Touriseum

Today, visitors to the Trauttmansdorff Castle can marvel at the famous botanical gardens which have been established on the slopes, with 80 individual garden landscapes from the world over and eleven pavilions designed by artists. The gardens are considered among Europe’s most beautiful. In the castle, the Touriseum invites you to enter and explore 200 years of alpine tourism history in a fun and educational manner.
